I am very delighted, highly honored and humbled to deliver a goodwill message on the public presentation of the flagship research report on the Sub-National Audit Efficacy Index 2023, titled “Expanding Accountability Frontier for Equitable and Inclusiveness Sustainable Development in Nigeria”.
- Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, permit me to use this opportunity to express and extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative on this flagship research report which represents a significant milestone in our collective pursuit of transparency, accountability, and sustainable development. I am particularly ecstatic about the Theme of this gathering which is “Expanding Accountability Frontier For Equitable And Inclusive Subnational Development In Nigeria“.
- The Sub-national Audit Efficacy Index stands as a testament to the tireless efforts and unwavering commitment of the Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative in advancing good governance and accountability in Nigeria. By evaluating the efficacy of governance mechanisms at the sub-national level, this report provides invaluable insights that are instrumental in guiding policymakers, stakeholders, and citizens toward informed decision-making and enhanced governance practices.
- In a nation as diverse and complex as Nigeria, the importance of accountability and inclusivity in governance cannot be over-emphasized. It is through initiatives such as the Sub-National Audit Efficacy Index that we can identify areas of progress, address challenges, and leverage opportunities for equitable and inclusive sustainable development.
- However, it is disheartening to note that, all improvements in transparency and accountability made during the implementation of the $1.5billion World Bank-Assisted States Fiscal Transparency Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) Programme which immensely encouraged fiscal transparency, accountability, and sustainability at the Sub-National level had been eroded due to lack of sustenance measures by policy actors.
- As the Auditor-General for the Federation, I am deeply encouraged and motivated by the dedication and commitment demonstrated by the Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative in championing the cause of good governance and accountability. Your steadfast efforts serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for all stakeholders who are critical to our nation’s march toward achieving transparency and accountability in the conduct of government businesses.
- Moving forward, let us seize the findings of the Sub-National Audit Efficacy Index as a call to action. Let us redouble our efforts, foster collaboration, and work tirelessly towards building a more accountable, transparent, and sustainable future for Nigeria.
